Are you looking for a pike up to 40 pounds? Any of these Bristol proven pike fishing locations will do the trick.
Bristol Top Five Pike fishing lakes and rivers are:
- Cheddar Reservoir
- River Avon
- River Chew
- Avalon fishery Shapwick Road, Westhay, BA6 9TT
- Chew Valley Lake
1. Cheddar Reservoir
Cheddar reservoir has Pike and can weigh up to 30 pounds. Summer spinning and lure fishing in shallow areas are the best baits. Rubber shads that sink slowly or big flashy spinners and spoons work well. Dead baiting is permitted beginning October 1st. All sea baits are successful (especially sardine & mackerel).
The reservoir is roughly 260 acres in size, with two parking lots at each entry. The first is located on the Axbridge side (BS26 2DL), while the second is located in Cheddar (BS27 3DR).
The most common banks are the south and west. Bottom weed can be a concern, so use popped-up or free-lined baits.
2. River Avon
River Avon has produced match catches up to 50 pounds, bream up to 4-5 pounds, and some excellent pike. Ken Lansbury captured the biggest Avon pike I’ve ever seen, weighing 33lb 4oz, near Newbridge, near Bath, in 1959.
3. River Chew
The River Avon is a great river with plenty of pike. The banks are quite steep in places, and boat traffic can be quite heavy, particularly on weekends.
4. Avalon fishery Shapwick Road, Westhay, BA6 9TT
The pleasure and match Pike lake is Moors Lake. It has 48 swims that are evenly spaced and provide excellent sport for all forms of anglers. It produces 100lb+ bags of quality carp to double figures in the summer, as well as tench, bream, skimmers, roach, rudd, perch, and pike.
5. Chew Valley Lake
Monster pike can be found in Chew Valley Lake, with the lake record currently standing at 44 lbs 6 oz. Mike Green captured a previous lake record pike of 40lb 8oz on the fly, and it has to be one of the most unusual fly-caught pike catches in the UK.
